For those who aren't familiar yet, I am doing a project about women in emo music. I have been looking at shows, bands, lyrics, everything trying to come to some conclusions about women in this genre and scene. If you are fan, I would love to hear from you! If you could leave me a comment, I would love to know...
- Are you male or female? (Feel free to comment regardless of gender, but I am looking for female fans)
- Which emo bands do you like? Why?
- How familiar are you with the lyrics and the meanings of the songs?
- What do you think about the fact that so many emo lyrics make men seem to be the victim of women? Do you notice this at all? Do you even think that is a true statement?
- Do you think women have a chance to respond to what the guys are singing about them?
- Do you like Paramore? Do you know of any other emo bands with women in them?
It's a lot of questions, so feel free to comment on any of them. Thank you so much for your help!

i disagree.
ReplyDelete1. nither paramore or fall out boy are "emo" bands. most ppl who call them that either dont like them or they just take one look at them or the music and assume.
2. most fans like the band because they enjoy the music or they like the artest, not because the lyrics are "emo"
3. if a fan is really devoted to a band, of course they are going to know what most of the meanings of the songs are. or they can even have their own meanings of songs.
4. if a person is so called emo than do you really think that they would just step up and say "yep im emo and im proud of it" (really?). Would you do the same kind of project on, for example, hip-hop genres of music and preppy girls?
i would like to say that i am a fall out boy fan and i am not emo even though i like emo styles in cloths. personally, i think of it as a joke when people refer to them as 'an emo band'. i believe it is not a just thing to say if you are being serious about it. it would be just like saying that lil wayne is a ganster in real life just because he raps for a living. that is what i call generalizing and i dont really like it. what im trying to say is please dont judge people based on what music they like.
Thanks for your input! I am also a Fall Out Boy fan, and I use the term "emo" pretty liberally. I figured people can decide for themselves what it means, and I am not ashamed at all to say that I am emo and I like emo music. I put FOB in that category very generally, they are more pop-punk nowadays, but regardless of this weird taboo that has sprung up, I'm trying to see what people who like any thing related to this type of music feel about their position as females in the scene. Thanks.
